End Time Events

1. WHAT IS THE GREAT TRIBULATION?

The word translated tribulation carries the idea of pressure, distress, affliction, and crushing trouble. Jesus adds the word great because this will not be an ordinary season of difficulty. It will be a concentrated period of global upheaval, spiritual deception, persecution, and divine judgment.

A period of unparalleled suffering

The book of Revelation describes a world shaken at every level. Human conflict intensifies. Food becomes scarce. Disease spreads. Creation convulses. Political power becomes increasingly centralized. Those who refuse to worship the Beast face persecution and death.

• Wars and conflict shake nations.
• Famine and economic disruption expose human fragility.
• Disease and catastrophe bring widespread fear.
• Persecution targets those who remain faithful to God.
• Deception becomes so powerful that lies are received as truth.

These events are not presented merely as random disasters. They reveal the consequences of human rebellion and the righteous response of a holy God.

A period of radical deception

2 THESSALONIANS 2:9–12 “The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works… through signs and wonders that serve the lie.” Paul emphasizes that the danger is not only physical suffering; it is spiritual deception.

The Antichrist will not rise only through military force. He will rise through persuasion, false peace, counterfeit signs, and promises that appear to solve the world’s deepest crises. Humanity will be offered unity without God, peace without truth, and salvation without Christ.

PREACHING LINE The most dangerous lie is not always the one that looks evil. It is the one that looks like the answer.

A period in which mercy is still visible

Even in these terrible chapters, God’s mercy has not vanished. Revelation 7 describes an innumerable multitude from every nation who come to faith during the Tribulation. God raises witnesses. The gospel is proclaimed. People wash their robes in the blood of the Lamb.

Judgment is real, but God is not cruel. He warns before He judges. He calls before He closes. He saves anyone who turns to Christ in faith.

REVELATION 7:14 “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”

KEY TRUTH God’s judgment is never separated from His holiness, and His warnings are never separated from His mercy.

2. WHEN DOES IT TAKE PLACE?

Bible-believing Christians agree that Christ will return, evil will be judged, and God will fulfill His promises. They do not all arrange every prophetic event in exactly the same way. We should hold our convictions clearly while treating faithful Christians who differ with grace.

The final “week” of Daniel’s prophecy

Daniel 9 presents seventy “weeks,” commonly understood as seventy groups of seven years. Sixty-nine of those weeks lead to the coming and cutting off of the Messiah. One final seven-year period remains in the prophetic framework.

DANIEL 9:27 “He will confirm a covenant with many for one “seven.” In the middle of the “seven” he will put an end to sacrifice and offering.”

In the pre-tribulation understanding that we hold, the Church is gathered to Christ before God’s end-time wrath is poured out. The seven-year Tribulation begins when the coming ruler confirms a covenant with many—not simply at the moment of the Rapture. Scripture does not tell us precisely how much time may pass between those two events.

The midpoint changes everything

The first half of the seven years may include a deceptive sense of order and peace. At the midpoint, the Antichrist breaks his covenant, exalts himself, and commits what Jesus calls the abomination of desolation. Persecution and judgment then intensify dramatically.

Some interpreters use “Great Tribulation” for the entire seven years. Others use it more specifically for the final three and one-half years after the midpoint. Either way, the point is not that we possess every detail. The point is that God has appointed the time, set its boundaries, and already announced its ending.

IMPORTANT BALANCE We should be confident about what Scripture makes clear and humble about details Scripture does not fully explain.

Birth pains, not a date-setting code

Jesus compared the signs of the age to birth pains. Birth pains increase in frequency and intensity, but they do not allow outsiders to calculate the exact minute of delivery. Wars, deception, famine, earthquakes, and lawlessness remind us that history is moving toward Christ’s return; they do not authorize us to announce dates.

PREACHING LINE Our assignment is not to calculate the day. Our assignment is to remain faithful in every day God gives us.

3. WHY DOES IT MATTER?

It reveals the seriousness of sin

Modern culture often treats sin as a harmless preference, a private choice, or an outdated religious idea. The Tribulation tears away that illusion. Rebellion against God destroys people, communities, nations, and eventually the world itself.

God does not judge because He is unpredictable or easily offended. He judges because He is perfectly holy and because evil is genuinely evil. A God who never confronts cruelty, exploitation, violence, deception, and idolatry would not be good.

It reveals the certainty of justice

People sometimes ask, “Why does God allow evil?” Scripture’s answer is that His patience is not permission, and His delay is not indifference. God is giving space for repentance. But a day arrives when every hidden thing is exposed and every arrogant power is brought down.

2 PETER 3:9 “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise… Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

KEY THOUGHT The delay of judgment is mercy, not weakness.

It reveals that God keeps His promises

The Tribulation is connected to promises God made through Daniel, the prophets, Jesus, and the apostles. God has not forgotten Israel. He has not abandoned His plan. He has not lost control of the nations. Every promise will reach its appointed fulfillment.

It magnifies the victory of Christ

The Tribulation is not the end of the story. Revelation does not end with the Beast on the throne. It ends with heaven opened and Jesus Christ returning as King of kings and Lord of lords. The darkest hour becomes the setting for the brightest revelation of His glory.

REVELATION 19:11, 16 “I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse… On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: King of kings and Lord of lords.”

PREACHING LINE The Tribulation is not proof that darkness wins. It is the final exposure of darkness before the King removes it.

4. WHAT ABOUT TODAY?

A sermon about the Tribulation must not end with charts. It must end with a decision. Prophecy was never given merely to fill our heads with information. It was given to shape our lives with urgency, holiness, courage, and hope.

Receive grace now

The clearest application is for anyone who has not trusted Christ: do not postpone salvation. The future judgment of God makes the present offer of grace even more precious. Jesus has already carried sin’s judgment at the cross. Forgiveness is available now—not because we deserve it, but because He paid for it.

2 CORINTHIANS 6:2 “Now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.”

Live faithfully now

Believers are not called to hide from the world or live in constant panic. We are called to serve faithfully where God has placed us. Keep worshiping. Keep loving your family. Keep serving the Church. Keep showing compassion. Keep doing the work Christ gave you.

Share Christ urgently

People around us need more than our political analysis, economic predictions, or end-times opinions. They need Jesus. Prophecy should make the Church more evangelistic, not merely more argumentative. If we believe Christ is coming and judgment is real, then the gospel must remain our first priority.

Refuse deception

The spirit of deception is already active in the world. We prepare by loving truth now. Know Scripture. Test every message. Refuse to let fear, outrage, personality, or popular opinion replace the authority of God’s Word.

2 THESSALONIANS 2:15 “Stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you.”

Live with courage and hope

The Church does not face the future as helpless victims. Our confidence is not in stable markets, powerful governments, or favorable circumstances. Our confidence is in Jesus Christ. He holds history. He keeps His people. He will return.
