Even Though

                              Romans 5:1-11

Romans: Considered Paul’s ‘Masterpiece.’

Context: Paul transitions/moves from the theme of having faith in God’s promises (4:18-25) to Enjoying what Righteousness Provides.

Transition: The first verse of chapter 5 makes a resounding entrance.

  1. We are made Right.
  • At Peace with God – Romans 5:1

James 4:4,

Enmity = hatred/hostility / Enemy

Romans 5:1 ‘Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ’, (NKJ)

Justified = declared righteous (right); pronounced, shown to be.

Righteousness = being made/declared in right standing with God….

Through Faith in/through Christ!

———————————————————–

Even Though we were/are: Jumping to Verse 6 then coming back….

NKJ  Romans 5:6 For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

NLT  Romans 5:6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.

  • Without strength (KJV, NKJ)
  • Helpless (NAS, NLT)
  • Powerless (NIV)
  • Incapaces (incapable)

We are now:

  1. At Peace with God

  2. State of tranquility
  3. Exemption from rage and havoc
  4. In Harmony
  5. Secure, safe, prosperous

3. Sit at the Table of Privilege (Grace) –Romans 5:2

‘He has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand.’

‘Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

“But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)

In Exodus 34:6, when God shows himself to Moses, we read, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.”

Transition
: This place/position of grace breeds confidence and joy.

4. Confident / Hopeful / Joyful (NLT) – Also 5:2

‘Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need’. (NKJ)

Transition:

  • Secure & Established under Trial – 5:3-5a
  • Holy Spirit Filled
  • Saved from Condemnation
