In Support of One Another
Introduction: Week 2 of things we should rally around. To ‘rally around’ is an idiom: to join together to support (something or someone) in a difficult time or situation!
And a brief prayer, an old Anglican prayer:
‘Father, what we know not, teach us. What we have not, give us. What we are not, make us. For your Son’s sake. Amen’.
Transition: Coming from the position as a Pastor, I think there are several things that we should/need to be fighting for.
That said, I also believe the only way to affect positive / transformative outcomes is to do it together.
It’s my opinion that it’s time to rally!
Transition:
Application: I would say to us that unless the saints gather, rally and pursue certain things, the church will continue to weaken until it’s virtually obsolete in cultural, political, and spiritual significance.
Transition: Today’s thoughts center around us Rallying in Support of One Another.
I. Love Is the Greatest Factor (One Another) – 1 Peter 4:8
Application: Love loves Freckles and Warts!
- The Differences/Distinctions – I like distinctions much better. How about you?
II. Doing good to each other – Hebrews 13:16
- Doing good is a good thing!
- How Can I help you today?
- Pray?
- Support?
- Help with transportation?
- Help you move stuff?
III. Carrying One Another’s Burdens – Galatians 6:2
Carrying is Caring!
- to take up with the hands 2) to take up in order to carry or bear, to put upon one’s self (something)
Help with spiritual concerns.
hold one’s hand when tempted or struggling
Lead/advise or listen and support.
IV. Watch Out for Others – Phil. 2:4; Deuteronomy 22:4
‘Watching Involves Including’
Philippians 2:4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. (Phi 2:4 NLT)
Deuteronomy 22:4 “If you see that your neighbor’s donkey or ox has collapsed on the road, do not look the other way. Go and help your neighbor get it back on its feet! (Deu 22:4 NLT)
V. Not withholding – Proverbs 3:27; Proverbs 11:25
Withholding is an abusive tactic that involves a person keeping love, affection, or even basic care from you until you do what they want you to do. It may not be communicated out loud, but somehow you are aware that you won’t get “love” from this person until you concede to their expectations.
Question: Withhold what?
- Love
- Knowledge
- Experience
Stewardship = epe-staci-a
