Wise in Stewardship – Part 2

Introduction

: Week three of ‘Wise Up.’

Week one general insturctions about necessity and wisdom of pursuing wisdom.

Wee 2 (Last Week) The concept in the NT that describes and defines what it means to be a servant before Christ is the word

steward

or

stewardship

.

How one uses one’s resources in the subject of economics.

The English word economics and economy comes from the Greek word

oikonomia

, which is made up of two parts:

oikos

, the word for ‘house’ or ‘household,’ and

nomos

, the word for ‘law.’

So oikos and nomos together literary man “house law.”

Oilonomia

is transliterated into English as “economy.”

The English word that translates-rather than transliterates-the word

oikonomia

in the English word

stewardship

Transition

: Today I follow up as promised about the blessings of faithfulness and what is the result of honoring God in our financial stewardship.

1 Kings 17:1-24

I choose this passage to speak to you about: Provision, Plenty, Prosperity and Promise.

The Apostle Paul teaches us in Philippians 4:

19

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

(NKJ)

Philippians 4:10-20

But to fully appreciate we have to go a little further back in context to verse beginning in verse 10.

Verse 10, “

your care for me has flourished again

.”

Verse 11, “

need…have learned to be content…”

Verse 14, “

nevertheless, you have done well that you shared in my distress.”

In verse 18 Paul’s confession is “I have

all

, and

abound

, I am

full

…”

4:19, Paul’s conviction and teaching, “

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Propositional

Question: So, what can we learn and should we understand about God’s promises to us regarding His provision, help and blessing?

Propositional #2

: What are some other verses

Deuteronomy 15:10

“You shall surely give to him, and your heart should not be grieved when you give to him, because for this thing the LORD your God will bless you in all your works and in all to which you put your hand

. (NKJ)

Proverbs 11:24,25

“There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty.

25

The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.”

(NKJ)

Propositional #3

: Are there conditions to God’s blessings?

Malachi 3

2 Corinthians 9:6-8

 –

“Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you,

so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed

.”

Luke 6:38

 –

“Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”

2 Corinthians 9:10

 – “Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.”

Question

: What does curse mean in Malachi 3? Is God going to, or does God curse me? The word speaks for itself, it must. And I believe what it says.

Illustration

: The way that I see it maybe I can illustrate as us hand-cuffing ourselves. God doesn’t hand cuff us, we put on the shackles ourselves!

God says, try me / test me…..and see!

Matthew 6:24

 “

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”

(NKJ)

douleuo

{dool-yoo’-o} Meaning

1) to be a slave, serve, do service 2) metaph. to obey, submit to; to yield obedience

Back to

I Kings 17:7-24

She thought she was done and assumed she would die.

Conclusion

: So what about us? What about today?
