Proverbs 20:7

Introduction: Today, our world is suffering from a shortage of godly men.

• We have more technology than ever before, yet less character.
• More information, yet less wisdom.
• More followers, yet fewer leaders.

The crisis of our culture is not political, economic, or educational—it is spiritual.

The need of the hour is for men who will stand up and become the men God created them to be.

• Not perfect men.
• Not famous men.
• Not wealthy men.

But godly men. Men who understand that true greatness is not measured by success but by faithfulness.

When God looks across our homes, our churches, and our communities, He is searching for a man of the hour—a man who will answer the call of God in his generation.

Transition: Today I want to talk about three characteristics that define a man of the hour:

The expression “man of the hour” did not originate in the Bible. It is an English idiom that became popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s and was used to describe the person who is most important, needed, admired, or influential at a particular moment in time.

Originally, it referred to someone who stepped forward during a critical situation—a leader, hero, or problem-solver whose actions were especially significant “for that hour” or moment.

The phrase emphasizes timeliness: the right person rising to meet the needs of a specific moment.

On this Father’s Day, 2026, I want to share with you three significant characteristics of that ‘man of the hour.’

I. THE MAN OF THE HOUR LEADS BY EXAMPLE

Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

One of the greatest truths about leadership is this:

People follow what they see more than what they hear.

Children may forget our words, but they rarely forget our example.

Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son is found in Genesis 22 and is often called “The Test of Abraham.”

God asked Abraham to take his beloved son, Isaac, the child God had promised would become the father of a great nation, and offer him as a sacrifice on Mount Moriah. Though Abraham did not fully understand why God would ask this, he obeyed in faith, trusting that God would somehow keep His promise.

As Abraham prepared to sacrifice Isaac, God stopped him and said, “Do not lay a hand on the boy.” God provided a ram caught in a thicket as a substitute sacrifice. Because Abraham demonstrated complete trust and obedience, God reaffirmed His covenant blessings, promising that Abraham’s descendants would be numerous and that all nations would be blessed through them.

Key lesson: Abraham’s story is not primarily about sacrifice, but about trusting God completely—even when His instructions don’t make sense.

A father’s life becomes the blueprint for his children.

• A husband becomes the model by which his children understand marriage.
• A man’s walk with God often becomes the standard by which his family views Christianity.

Example Is Powerful – The Apostle Paul said:

Paul understood leadership isn’t simply giving instruction. Leadership is demonstrating a lifestyle.

1 Corinthians 11:1 “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.”

Anybody can tell someone what to do. A godly man shows them how it’s done.

Our Children Are Watching: They watch:

• How we treat their mother.
• How we handle conflict.
• How we respond to pressure.
• How we speak about people.
• How we worship God.

• Not from our sermons.
• Not from our lectures.

But from our lives.

Application: The man of the hour understands that his greatest influence comes through his example.

II. THE MAN OF THE HOUR LIVES IN INTEGRITY

Proverbs 10:9, “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.”

Integrity is becoming increasingly rare.

We live in a culture that often values image over character.

• Appearance over substance.
• Popularity over righteousness.

But God is not impressed with appearances. God looks at the heart.

Joseph’s rejection of temptation is found in Genesis 39. As a servant in Egypt, Joseph worked in the house of Potiphar, a high-ranking Egyptian official. Potiphar’s wife repeatedly tried to seduce Joseph, but he consistently refused her advances, saying that it would be a betrayal of both his master’s trust and a sin against God.

One day, when she tried to force the issue, Joseph fled the house, leaving his cloak behind rather than compromising his integrity. Though he did the right thing, he was falsely accused and thrown into prison.

Key lesson: Joseph chose character / integrity over convenience and obedience over pleasure

Question: What Is Integrity?

• Integrity is who you are when nobody is watching.
• Integrity is consistency.
• It means your public life matches your private life.

Question: You are the same person: At church, home, work, online, behind closed doors

Proverbs 20:7 says: “The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him.”

Notice it doesn’t say wealthy. It says blessed.

Children / families thrive when they know:

• Dad keeps his word.
• Dad tells the truth.
• Dad admits when he’s wrong.
• Dad practices what he preaches.

The Legacy of Integrity

• Money can be spent.
• Possessions can disappear.
• Fame can fade.

The greatest thing you can leave your children isn’t a fortune. It’s a godly example of integrity.

III. THE MAN OF THE HOUR STANDS FIRM IN A FALLEN CULTURE

Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Every generation faces pressure.

• Pressure to compromise.
• Pressure to conform.
• Pressure to fit in.

The challenge of our generation is not simply surviving culture. It’s remaining faithful in the middle of it.

We Live in a Fallen World. The Bible warned us this would happen.

• Good would be called evil.
• Truth would be challenged.
• Biblical values would be ridiculed.

Yet God’s truth remains unchanged.

Culture shifts. God’s Word does not.

You may be thinking of Lot in Genesis 19.

When two angels came to visit Lot in Sodom, the men of the city surrounded Lot’s house and demanded that the visitors be brought out so they could sexually assault them. Lot went outside, shut the door behind him, and tried to protect his guests from the mob.

This is one of the most disturbing passages in the Bible because, in his attempt to protect his guests, Lot offered his daughters to the crowd instead—an action that the Bible records but does not endorse. The focus of the story is on the extreme wickedness of Sodom and Lot’s effort to protect those under his care, but Lot’s response itself is not presented as righteous.

The angels then intervened, struck the mob with blindness, and ultimately led Lot and his family out of the city before God judged Sodom and Gomorrah.

Joshua’s Declaration

Joshua 24:15 “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

A man of the hour doesn’t let culture determine his convictions. He lets Scripture determine his convictions.

Your Family Needs Stability: A father who stands firm becomes an anchor in the storm.

Courage Is Contagious. When a man stands firm:

• His family gains confidence.
• His children gain direction.
• His church gains strength.
• His community gains hope.

God is still looking for men who will stand when everyone else bows.

IV. THE MAN OF THE HOUR ESTABLISHES A GODLY LEGACY

Proverbs 13:22 “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children.”

When most people hear the word inheritance, they think about money.

But the greatest inheritance a father can leave is not financial. It’s spiritual.

A man of the hour understands that he is not merely building a life. He is building a legacy.

2. Joseph — Legacy of Integrity

3. Moses — Legacy of Leadership

4. Joshua — Legacy of Commitment

5. Samuel — Legacy of Spiritual Influence

6. David — Legacy of Pursuing God

7. Job — Legacy of Perseverance

8. Daniel — Legacy of Conviction

9. Paul — Legacy of Disciple-Making

Spread the gospel throughout the Roman world.

10. Timothy — Legacy of Faith Passed Down

Legacy = Continuing a godly heritage.

What Is Legacy?

• Legacy is what remains after you’re gone.
• It’s the values you pass on.
• It’s the faith you instill.
• It’s the example you leave behind.

It’s what your children and grandchildren will
remember when they speak your name.

Many men spend their lives accumulating possessions. God wants us to spend our lives investing in generations.

Psalm 145:4“One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts.”

A Legacy Is Built Daily

Legacy isn’t created in one moment.

It’s established over a lifetime.

Question: Application: Ask yourself:

• What am I passing on?
• What will my grandchildren know about God because of me?
• Am I leaving more than memories?
• Am I leaving a spiritual inheritance?

The man of the hour understands that his greatest success is not what he accomplishes during his lifetime, but what continues after he’s gone.

Conclusion: The question today is not: “Are you successful?” The question is: “Are you becoming the man God has called you to be?”

The man of the hour:

Leads by Example – His life points others toward Christ.

Lives in Integrity – He is the same man in public and private.

Stands Firm in a Fallen Culture – He refuses to compromise biblical truth.

Leaves a Godly Legacy

The world doesn’t need more celebrities.

It doesn’t need more influencers.

It doesn’t need more powerful personalities.

It needs godly men.

Altar Call
Today God is calling men to step into their assignment.

Some need to recommit to leading their families spiritually.

Some need to make things right in areas of integrity.

Some need courage to stand firm in a culture that is pulling them away from God.

If you desire to become the man God has called you to be—the man of the hour—stand to your feet and come forward.

Let’s pray: “Lord, make us men who lead by example, live with integrity, and stand firm in truth. Let our lives reflect Your character and leave a legacy that honours You. Strengthen us to be the men of this hour, for this generation, and for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
