On Our Side

2 Kings 6:8; Romans 8:28-31

Introduction: Last week: Gates of Hell shall not prevail.

There is so much written in Scripture about God being on our side: to rescue, comfort, strengthen, lead and save!

We need to see clearly what God provides for us!

  1. Israel is at War / being attacked – 6:8-10 ‘Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was greatly troubled’ because God would expose his plans / whereabouts.

  2. They were surrounded.
  3. Had no one to help them.

Scripture on warfare.

  1. God as His Peoples Defense – 6:11-13
  1. Elisha needing answers/ instruction / direction. – 6:14-15

Elisha could see no escape.

  • Manna from heaven when hungry.
  • Water when there was drought.
  • Healing when there was sickness. – Bitter waters.
  1. Supernatural Understanding of the Nature and Person of God. – 6:16-17

Application: Elisha’s answer came though a supernatural revelation of who God was at that moment. Open His Eyes

Ephesians 1:17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, (NKJ)

Understanding

  • Courage and Valor to Proceed –‘Elisha prayed’ 6:18

What we need is a revelation, understanding…disclosure of whom God is and what he will do, that moves us into a victorious position.

  • A Reversal of the Enemies Plans / Tactics – 6:18-23

Verse 6:23: ‘So the bands of Syrian raiders came no more into the land of Israel.’

A Danelion for My Mother

By Jean Nordhaus How I loved those spiky suns, rooted stubborn as childhood in the grass, tough as the farmer’s big-headed children—the mats of yellow hair, the bowl-cut fringe.
