Palm Sunday – Plan & Purpose

Introduction
: There is so much that could be done and said about ‘Palm Sunday.’
Today I choose to address one of the aspects of Jesus’ coming into Jerusalem.
Part of what was being done / accomplished was God’s intended Purpose for Jesus.
Mark 1:38 But He said to them, “Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because for this purpose I have come forth.” (Mar 1:38 NKJ)
John 12:27 “Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? `Father, save Me from this hour ‘? But for this purpose I came to this hour. (Joh 12:27 NKJ)
JESUS KNEW WHAT HE WAS STEPPING INTO!
THERE WAS A PLAN AND THERE WAS A PURPOSE!
PALM SUNDAY IS PART OF A PLAN THAT SERVED A PURPOSE!
Transition: Let me share with you about (1) a beautiful day, (2) a difficult / terrible interlude, (3) an accomplished purpose & destiny.
A beautiful day, which had a difficult / terrible that led to an accomplished destiny.
I. The Beautiful Day
For Jesus, what we know refer to as Palm Sunday was a beautiful day.
The day began amazing. Exciting, Celebratory, prophetic!
Application: Our coming into genuine / authentic faith is pretty much the same.
Luke 15:10 – Angels ‘rejoice’ over one sinner that comes into the faith. Joy & Delight is the word.
Our spiritual birthdays are days of thanksgiving / gratitude, etc.…
1 Corinthians 15:19 ‘If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable. (1Co 15:19 NKJ)
Colossians 1:27 – Christ in you, the hope of glory!
2 Corinthians 5:17 ‘Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new’. (2Co 5:17 NKJ)
II. The difficult / terrible Interlude
Jesus had to spend several severe days getting to his destiny. He was ultimately beaten and crucified after being mocked and broken by the very one’s he loved the most!
Application: While Palm Sunday started in a beautiful way…it was only one part of the journey/mission…and Jesus knew that.
At the Last supper Jesus set the stage in an attempt to prepare his disciples.
Matthew 26:24 “The Son of Man indeed goes just as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.” (NKJ)
Isaiah 53:1f
Application: The interlude between promise and purpose includes struggle for us too!
III. The Ultimate Purpose
When Jesus died on the cross and proclaimed, ‘It is finished,’ He was stating that his suffering mission (His death) had been completed….but His purpose wasn’t fully identified yet!
Life isn’t merely, at least not for me (and I could justify any / all believers) earthy accomplishments, achievements, pleasure and leisure.
We as Christians have a purpose!
We as Christians are looking to fulfill a Godly place / role / destiny!
We have been bought with a price…therefore we glorify God with, everything!
Little Matias Yandall Fuamina has a purpose specifically that only he will ultimately occupy.
1 Corinthians 9:24 ‘Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it’. (NKJ)
Conclusion: For us on this Palm Sunday the question(s) are?
• Do we understand what we’ve stepped into by professing Christ as not just savior but Lord?
• Have we discerned and…
• Are we pursuing God’s purposed toward a completed destiny?
