The Final Four – Week 1: The Rapture
Subtitle: Our Blessed Hope

Big Idea: The Rapture is not meant to produce fear about the future, but faithfulness in the present.

Introduction/Question: “Imagine walking into work tomorrow morning and discovering that thousands of people around the world had disappeared overnight. What would be your first explanation?”

“For the Christian, that isn’t science fiction. It’s a promise.”

Application: The world is fascinated with the end of the world—movies, AI, wars, disasters, economic collapse—but Christians don’t wait for the end of the world.

We wait for the return of our Savior.

Paul never introduced the Rapture to scare believers. He introduced it to comfort them.

“Therefore encourage one another with these words.”
—1 Thessalonians 4:18

Question: So lets begin by answering the question:

I. What Is the Rapture?

Definition – The word Rapture isn’t found in most English Bibles.
The Greek word is harpazō—to seize, snatch away suddenly.
The Latin translation used the word rapiemur, from which we get “rapture.”

Read: 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17

Highlight four events.

1. Jesus descends.
2. The dead in Christ rise first.
3. Living believers are caught up.
4. We meet the Lord forever.

Emphasize: This isn’t about escaping problems. It’s about meeting Jesus.

Jesus promised it first – John 14:1–3

Notice: “I will come again and receive you unto Myself.”
Jesus didn’t simply promise heaven.
He promised to personally come for His people.

II. When Does It Take Place?

Explain respectfully that faithful Christians differ.
Mention:
• Pre-Tribulation
• Mid-Tribulation
• Post-Tribulation

Then say something like:
“At Christian Life Church, I believe Scripture points most clearly to Christ gathering His Church before God’s wrath is poured out.”

Use: 1 Thessalonians 5:9 “God has not appointed us to wrath…”

Revelation 3:10 “I will keep you from the hour of trial…”

Also note: The Church is repeatedly mentioned in Revelation chapters 1–3 but is noticeably absent throughout the primary Tribulation judgments until Christ returns in Revelation 19. Many pre-tribulation teachers see this as supporting evidence, though it is an inference rather than an explicit statement.

Stress: The exact timing isn’t what saves us.
Jesus does.

III. Why Does the Rapture Matter?

Because it gives us hope.
Titus 2:13 “Our blessed hope…”
• Hope isn’t wishful thinking.
• Hope is confident expectation.

Because it reminds us this world isn’t our home.

Philippians 3:20 “Our citizenship is in heaven.”

Christians should be the most invested in serving people on earth while remembering our permanent home is with Christ.

Because death doesn’t win.
1 Corinthians 15 “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
For believers…
• Funerals become temporary goodbyes.
• Graves become waiting rooms.

IV. Question: How Should We Live Until Then?

This is where the sermon becomes practical.
Jesus never said,
“Figure out every prophecy.”

He said, “Be ready.”
Live faithfully.
Live Holy – Luke 12:35–40 –

1 John 3:2–3 “Everyone who has this hope purifies himself…”

Expectation changes behavior.
Live urgently. People around us need Christ.

The doctrine of the Rapture should increase evangelism, not speculation.

Live courageously. No matter what headlines say… Jesus is still King.

Conclusion: Illustration
Imagine waiting at an airport for someone you’ve loved for years.
• Every announcement makes your heart jump.
• Every arriving passenger catches your attention.
• You’re not afraid.
• You’re excited.

That is how Christians should live.
• Not hiding.
• Not panicking.
• Watching.
• Working.
• Waiting.

Final Challenge
Question: Ask: The question every preacher, evangelist, missionary, everyone who loves and cares about souls, ‘If Jesus came today, are you ready?’
Have you trusted Him as Savior?
Are you living like He could come at any moment?
Who in your life needs to hear the gospel before that day?

Close by reading:
“Therefore encourage one another with these words.”
—1 Thessalonians 4:18

That final verse captures the tone of the message. The doctrine of the Rapture was given to comfort the Church, strengthen hope, and motivate holy living—not to create fear.
